Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason

I thought of you yesterday

that is happiness; to be dissolved into something completely great
Willa Cather

I thought of you yesterday
as the falling snow swirled
among the bare branches
and gathered on the
green benches
in the park where you go,
and made lovely soft hills
from the ragged ice mountains
ranging along the streets
where you live,
and filled the air with
soft cotton so that all you could hear
was the sound of your breath
escaping your smile
as you thought
this is better,
if there's going to be winter
let it be a creation,
art I can feel
as it touches my cheek,

this is better,
if there's going to be wind
let it be grand and glorious,
have it toss me about
with its energy, its life,

this is better,
if there's going to be rain
let it be a great torrent
that lifts up my eyes
that unshackles my soul,

this is better,
if there's going to be clouds
let them be wondrous towers
that stretch up forever
to capture the sun,

I thought of you yesterday
as the falling snow swirled.
