Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason

discontinuity

last night I slept for hours and hours
and dreamed many crazy dreams
and when I awoke
I could hear rain
pattering on my window,
hissing on the streets
and I went to the door
to see
and said aloud,
La pluie!
Et j'ai dit,
Pourquoi?
and later, in my bath of hot, hot water
while I lay poaching
I closed my eyes and heard
lovely multisyllabic words
and I could feel them against my skin
like curious fabric eels
caressing me,

embarkation, allowance, disaffection, congregation, rudimentary, applicable, contemplation, disingenuous, discontinuous, revelation, recreation, affection

and I began to think this poem
(just a simple few lines at first)
but my imagination brushed past me
and, like a corps of aestheticians at work
teased and plucked and sampled shades and hues
and formed the words into this
without telling me.
Pourquoi?
