Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason

just before sunset

just before sunset
a sudden storm arose
out of the heavy, hot
air
and the fat pats of rain
splatting on the grey
cement
flashed at the lightning,
and sizzled down
through the branches,
and jumped with joy
on the road,
as the trees tossed their
green manes in the raucous
wind

and I could see you
smiling
at all the life
around you
