diamond

If we could learn to like ourselves, even a little, maybe our cruelties and angers might melt away.
John Steinbeck

Fear rules me,
Like some
Dark,
Hard,
Cold son,

Illuminating in umber
A life
Discouraged,
And in its dark shadow,
A child who would think for
Days,
When the world looked like a kaleidoscope,
Hurt bursting in his
Breast,
Because the world did not have an
Ear
For his speech,
Pressing his whole being,
His heart,
His mind,
His soul
Into one
Perfect, bright diamond of truth,
Some mad image
That he could show to the world,
This is me.

Fear, my constant companion,
Announces my name,
Designs my face,
Blinds my eyes,
Chokes my voice,
Bends me
To its will,
Hides me from the sight of
Others,
And so far, far away,
